Project Overview

This project targets mobile populations comprising key populations and communities near border areas. The project aims to reduce HIV infections in the SADC region and mitigate the impact of HIV and AIDS on mobile people and affected communities across Member States.

Objectives of the project

  • Increase sexual and reproductive health awareness amongst mobile populations, including key and priority populations (e.g., female sex workers and Adolescent Girls and Young Women AGWY) through comprehensive sexuality education.
  • Provide gender-responsive and adolescent-friendly comprehensive sexuality education and sexual and reproductive health services to long-distance truck drivers (LDTDs), female sex workers and adolescent girls and young women.
  • Increase utilisation of gender-responsive and adolescent-friendly sexual and reproductive health services amongst Long-Distance truck drivers (LDTDs)s, female sex workers and adolescent girls and young women.
  • Conduct operational research on the cost-effectiveness of a package of HIV and related services for mobile populations, namely long-distance truck drivers, female sex workers and AGYW.

Our clinics are located at ‘hotspots’ such as border posts, transit towns or ports where large numbers of trucks stop, load and offload and where sex work and informal trades flourish. Most are open late, tailored to the hours of our core target populations.
