This week, OR2013, the International Conference on Operations Research, kicked off in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The conference brings leaders from academia, business, government, and the not-for-profit sector together to explore how operations research and optimisation processes can positively impact people, business, and society as a whole.
As part of the conference, which is being hosted in Rotterdam’s Beurs – World Trade Center, North Star Alliance Executive Director, Luke Disney, will co-host a roundtable discussion entitled “Impact on People, Business, and Society”, alongside Pieter Bootsma, Air France KLM’s Executive VP Marketing, Revenue Management and Network, and Wim Fabries, Director of Transport at Netherlands Railways (Nederlandse Spoorwegen in Dutch, or NS for short).
During the roundtable discussion, North Star’s model will be highlighted as an example of how optimisation processes and tools can positively impact healthcare provision and humanitarian assistance in developing countries. Specifically, North Star’s award-winning electronic health monitoring and registration system (COMETS) will be discussed, as will our clinical optimisation tool POLARIS, which allows us to optimise the placement of new and existing clinical infrastructure, and staffing and inventory levels.
Among the conference’s main sponsors are North Star partners ORTEC, who collaboratively developed our COMETS and POLARIS systems, and Paragon Decision Technology, whose AIMMS software has further supported our optimisation efforts.
