Earlier this month, on World AIDS Day, we were proud to announce the official opening of our newest Roadside Wellness Centre in Farafenni, The Gambia. Of course, this wasn’t the only activity hosted by North Star in recognition of World AIDS Day. Across East and Southern Africa, North Star staff and partners were reaching out to their local communities to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS, and to provide HIV counselling and testing services.
One example of this took place at our Matsapha Roadside Wellness Centre in Swaziland, where North Star joined forces with Unitrans to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS and encourage the community to take a stand against the epidemic. The event included Swaziland’s Minister of Labour, the Director of Health Services, and a motivational speaker from the Swaziland Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (SWANEPHA). Led by Siqondile Khanye, North Star’s nurse at the Matsapha clinic, Unitrans staff also took a pledge, committing to a healthy and safe lifestyle by stamping their hands onto a card with the words “I pledge to take a stand against HIV”.
