This month, we’re happy to announce the official opening of a new North Star Alliance clinic (Roadside Wellness Centre) in Livingstone, Zambia. Established in cooperation with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and with support from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, our new Livingstone clinic will provide a full range of health services to mobile workers crossing between Zimbabwe and Zambia at the Victoria Falls – Livingstone border crossing, as well as to community members from Livingstone and the surrounding region. Livingstone is the second clinic to be established at this busy border crossing, joining our Victoria Falls clinic, which was opened on the Zimbabwean side of the border in June 2012.
As part of this SADC initiative, which focuses on scaling cross-border HIV prevention activities across Southern Africa, North Star has been rolling out a network Roadside Wellness Centres that provide basic health services along with HIV prevention, STI treatment, HIV counselling and testing, condom distribution, and referrals to community health facilities when required, at border and corridor community locations in Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Other North Star clinics established as part of this initiative include locations in Ficksburg South Africa, Kazungula Ferry Botswana, Forbes Zimbabwe, and Victoria Falls, mentioned above.
