This week we introduce you to Maud Mogale, one of our project coordinators in our Southern Africa region.
Born and raised in Durban, Maud has been working with community members since 2004. She was introduced to North Star Alliance when she was working with Maromi Health Services and assessing the potential location for future Blue Box clinics for the Southern African Development Community.
Having started with us as a consultant, she is now managing the Hands Off! project in close collaboration with Aids Fonds. The Hands Off! programme works on the reduction of violence against sex workers through prevention, care and support services. A dedicated multi-tasker, Maud is often doing a multitude of things each day that would make people’s heads spin. Answering phone calls, welcoming visitors, communicating with our staff on the ground, preparing reports, doing field outreach, mobilisation and supervisory visits, Maud is ubiquitous at North Star.
Describing herself as a ‘loyal person who has a big heart’, it is her passion for people that drives her. As the Zulu adage goes, ‘Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu’ which means ‘A person is a person because of people’; working hard every day to make a difference in the lives of strangers, Maud is the living embodiment of this beautiful saying.
As part of her work with Hands Off!, Maud often hears tough and heartbreaking life stories but always receives them with empathy and an open mind, looking for possibilities and alternatives to help out.
An impatient optimist, Maud wishes that North Star Alliance could scale faster to provide everyone with essential health services, leaving no one unhealthy.
