This week, we officially welcomed a new North Star Alliance Wellness Centre to our clinical network in Southern Africa – the first of 5 new clinics to be built in South Africa as part of a collaborative initiative with the Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (WRHI), PEPFAR and USAID. Located in the Johannesburg suburb of City Deep, along one of Africa’s main transport arteries, this new clinic will act as a flagship location for our Southern Africa region and will increase our capacity to deliver health services to mobile populations, like long distance truck drivers, at this important regional hub.
In addition to offering our full range of health services, City Deep will also be our first centre in Southern Africa to offer antiretroviral therapy (ART), a programme that will be rolled out in the near future with support from WRHI and the Netherlands’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a part of the North-South Corridor project. As a result of this programme, the site will also serve as an important clinical research centre providing greater insight into how to effectively implement and scale HIV treatment and reproductive health programmes for mobile populations in Southern Africa.
We’ll post more photos soon, but for now, here’s a quick look!
