North Star works with two categories of funding: core and operational.

Core funding is provided by our core partners and the Dutch Foreign Ministry. Our core partners have a deep and lasting commitment to North Star and its objectives. Core funding is used to cover overhead expenditures incurred at the head office level related to the development, management, monitoring and evaluation of the entire North Star Alliance organization.

Operational funding comes from a fluid and overlapping network of more than 60 partners including government donors, national ministries, local transport companies, international supply chain operators, non-governmental organizations and inter-governmental organizations.

Operational funding is used for the establishment and operational expenses of the Wellness Centres. These expenses include infrastructure investments, staff salaries, pharmaceutical and medical procurements, ICT, training and development, monitoring and evaluation, travel, reporting and administration directly related to the operational activities of the Wellness Centres.

Currently the costs for establishing a Wellness Centre are approximately $25,000  and the costs of operating a centre approximately $50,000 annually.
