North Star provides transporters, sex workers and related communities sustainable access to basic healthcare and safety.
Core values
North Star’s methodology has five key characteristics that we consider to be our core values:
- Truck drivers and truck-stop communities have the same rights to health and security as the rest of the population.
- The health and security of truck drivers and truck-stop communities is the shared responsibility of all employer, government, trade union, community and individual stakeholders.
- Health and safety services for truck drivers and truck-stop communities must be integrated into national systems and industry/company programmes.
- Health and safety services for truckers and truck-stop communities must account for sex workers and women at risk.
- Health and safety services for truck drivers and truck-stop communities cannot rely on donor funding alone.
